AVEVA Edge

AVEVA Edge is a highly scalable HMI/SCADA software platform for developing applications that run on edge devices, industrial panels, and embedded systems. Formerly known as InduSoft Web Studio, it provides a single integrated development environment (IDE) for creating portable applications that deploy across Windows, Windows Embedded, and Linux platforms.

Runtime editions

AVEVA Edge SCADA — full-featured Windows runtime for advanced SCADA applications on Windows Server 2022/2019/2016 and Windows 11/10. Supports unlimited tags, thin clients, and comprehensive features including OPC HDA server, .NET controls, and ActiveX support.

AVEVA Edge Embedded HMI — optimized for Windows IoT Enterprise (LTSC/LTSB) on industrial panels. Small footprint (128MB storage, 64MB RAM) with full HMI capabilities.

AVEVA Edge IoT View — Linux-based runtime for edge devices including Raspberry Pi. Minimal footprint (140MB storage, 32MB RAM) with 16 native drivers, Python scripting support (2023 R2), and MQTT Sparkplug B connectivity.

Limitations

• OPC DA client disabled by default in new projects (legacy protocol)
• IoT View has limited driver support (16 drivers vs full set on Windows editions)
• Some advanced features like .NET controls and ActiveX not available on IoT View
• IoT View Unlimited license only available via AVEVA Flex subscription, not perpetual license
• LDAP security supported only on SCADA and Embedded editions
