Scope 3 emissions calculation requires supplier-specific PCF data that industry-average databases cannot provide. Without standardized exchange, companies use inaccurate proxies or conduct bilateral data collection that cannot scale.
The Catena-X PCF exchange standard (and emerging cross-industry equivalents) defines a common data model for product carbon footprints, enabling suppliers to publish primary PCF data once and share it with multiple customers through dataspace infrastructure. WBCSD's PACT (Partnership for Carbon Transparency) provides the cross-industry framework for PCF data exchange. Standardized calculation rules (ISO 14067, PEF) ensure comparability. Verification mechanisms validate that reported PCFs meet methodological requirements.
PCF data exchange platforms, PACT-compliant APIs, dataspace PCF connectors, and verification and validation engines.
